Malaysia elected to IAEA Board of Governors

THE International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has elected Malaysia to its Board of Governors for the 2020-2022 term as a representative for Southeast Asia and the Pacific, Bernama news agency reported today.

As per the report, Wisma Putra said the decision was reached during the 64th regular session of the IAEA General Conference in Vienna, Austria on Sept 24.

“Malaysia has served on the Board of Governors for nine terms since 1976.

“As a member of the Board, Malaysia is fully committed and will continue to support and work with the IAEA and member states to ensure the potential of nuclear energy is utilised for peaceful purposes,” Wisma Putra was quoted as saying.

The annual IAEA General Conference, which congregates high-ranking officials and representatives from IAEA member states, serves as an intergovernmental forum for scientific and technical cooperation in promoting the peaceful use of nuclear technology and nuclear power worldwide. – Sept 27, 2020
