Malaysia is the 10th most peaceful country in the world

MALAYSIA climbed nine spots in the 2024 Global Peace Index (GPI) ranking 10th as one of the world’s most peaceful countries this year according to the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP)’s 2024 index.

However, Malaysia still has some catching up to do with Singapore which ranked fifth globally this year, but we outrank Indonesia (48), Cambodia (70) and Thailand (75).

Malaysia also ranked as the third-most peaceful country in the Asia-Pacific region, with New Zealand leading the list, followed by Singapore, according to the 2024 GPI.

While the institute said global peacefulness declined by 0.56% this year, marking the fifth consecutive year of deterioration, Malaysia has seen significant improvement as it was ranked 19th in 2023.

The report highlighted Malaysia’s position in the top five for peacefulness in ongoing conflicts and ranks it third in militarisation.

Moreover, the Asia-Pacific region saw a minor decrease in peacefulness by 0.1% in the 2024 GPI, maintaining its status as the world’s second most peaceful region since 2017.

The GPI also reveals a global trend of decreasing peacefulness over the past 16 years, with the average country score declining by 4.5% since the index’s inception in 2008.

Lately, Malaysia has been named the most loved country in Asia, as it ranks high on all metrics considered in the research by Insider Monkey.

It is also the sixth-most democratic country on the continent. Malaysia has secured the top position in the list of the 20 Most Loved Countries in Asia by a New York-based financial website.

After winning the most loved country in the region, Malaysia scores big again, with Langkawi and Penang being ranked among the top 10 best islands in Asia for 2024.

They secure the 7th and 8th spots, respectively, according to DestinAsian’s 17th Annual Readers’ Choice Awards. The survey, conducted from August to November 2023, assessed destinations based on 36 categories including hotels, airlines, and cruise lines. – June 16, 2024
