MALAYSIA has recorded 71 new Covid-19 cases today, which brings the total number of cases to 5,603. There are two new deaths recorded, bringing the death toll to 95.
The Ministry of Health also recorded 90 new recoveries and there are now a total of 3,542 cases that have recovered and discharged. At the moment, the recovery rate is 63.2% while the mortality rate is 1.7%.
There are 2,041 cases still receiving treatment and 42 are currently in ICU with 21 requiring respiratory support. Today marks seven consecutive days with fewer than 100 new daily cases reported.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah observed that from the recent trend, the number of cases discharged today continued to outpace the number of new infections reported.
He reported that one of the Covid-19 deaths was a medical worker with the MoH and had a close contact history with a positive case of Covid-19. This is the third death involving MoH health workers.
Based on the findings, the cause of infection for the MoH workers is not due to their handling positive cases for Covid-19 at MoH’s Health Facility. Around 70% of the cases are due to personal activities such as attending festivals and going abroad. – April 23, 2020
