Malaysia records its highest number of new cases in 2022 so far

MALAYSIA recorded 5,736 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday (Feb 3), with 183 of them being imported cases.

This marks the highest number of new cases being reported within 24 hours in 2022.

According to the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country since the pandemic started now stands at 2,863,156.

The site also showed that 3,196 patients have recovered since yesterday (Feb 2), with a total of 2,790,383 patients discharged since the COVID-19 outbreak began.

However, the nation’s hospitalisation rate climbed to 60.2%, with the intensive care units (ICUs) reaching 49.9% capacity.

Currently, 112 people are being treated in ICUs with 54 of them in need of ventilator support.

There were also seven fatalities recorded with two patients brought in dead (BID), bringing the death toll to 31,992.

Meanwhile, the total number of active cases in the country is now at 59,685, with 87.5% of them (52,207) are being subjected to home quarantine. – Feb 3, 2022
