THE Malaysia Hindu Dharma Maamandram staged a solemn prayer session was at Sri Sivan Alayam temple in Brickfields yesterday (Aug 19) to show solidarity with the Hindu and minority communities who are facing genocide threats in Bangladesh.
Emphasising the importance of unity and collective prayers during current challenging times, the event was attended by several prominent NGO leaders and political figures.
Among the distinguished attendees were the Maamandram president A. Radhakrishna, Klang MP Ganapathy Rao, Global Human Rights Federation (GHRF) president S. Shashi Kumar and the Malaysian Hindu Lawyers Association member Datuk Murugesan Sinnandavar.
The prayers commenced at 8pm with a Full Moon (Paurnami) Abishegam facilitated by temple chairman Raja Singam. This was followed by Thevaram and Bhajans led by devotee M. Parameswaran which filled the temple with a spirit of devotion and unity.
After the conclusion of the prayers, several leaders delivered brief speeches to express their concerns and hopes for the safety and well-being of the Bangladeshi minority communities.
They stressed that every life is precious and that the collective prayers were a powerful call for divine intervention to protect those facing persecution.
The event attracted about 150 members of the Hindu community which demonstrated strong support for the cause. The gathering concluded with a communal dinner, fostering a sense of camaraderie and shared purpose among all participants.
“Coordinated by the Malaysia Hindu Dharma Maamandram deputy president Rishi Kumar Vadivellu and council member Kasthuri Krishnan, the event was both meaningful and impactful as the Hindu community in Malaysia united in prayer for their brethren in Bangladesh,” the NGO pointed out in a statement.
“We hope and pray that the Almighty will intervene and bring peace and protection to the minority communities in Bangladesh. This event is a testament to our unwavering commitment to stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters, no matter where they are.”
Recall that the GHRF which also participated in the prayers yesterday (Aug 19) has expressed its grave disappointment at the Madani government for its inaction in addressing the genocide of Hindu minorities in Bangladesh – at least on humanitarian grounds.
Such indifference is in stark contrast to the way the Madani administration rallies for the plight of Palestinians who are facing genocide threat in the hands of the Zionist regime, according to the NGO’s president S. Shashi Kumar.
“The lack of condemnation from Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim towards the violence and persecution faced by the Hindu minorities in Bangladesh is particularly concerning,” lamented the social activist.
“While Anwar has been vocal in championing the plight of Palestinians by calling for humanitarian aid to Gaza, his silence on the atrocities in Bangladesh is deafening.” – Aug 20, 2024
