Malaysian Indian Voice: PAS disappoints us with their narrow-mindedness

By Pappa Raidu Veraman

WE, the Malaysian Indian Voice (MIV), are very disappointed with PAS leaders for showing their true colours.

It is time for us to evaluate our political leaders, especially during this COVID-19 pandemic.

I wish to highlight two articles from two Menteri Besar – one from Selangor Menteri Besar, Amirudin Shari wants to cut the pay for Aduns, Exco, top management of government-linked companies (GLCs) and his salary as a Menteri Besar, just to fill-up the Tabung Bantuan for COVID-19.

Based on the news from Malaysiakini, the Menteri Besar said that he will contribute his one month’s salary to the COVID-19 fundraising programmee to help those who were badly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The second statement is from Kedah’s Menteri Besar, Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor which carries the title of “No Thaipusam so no holiday in Kedah”.

Recently the Kedah’s Menteri Besar was criticised by many non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and party leaders when he made the ‘drunk on toddy’ comment on the Indian community during war of words involving him, MIC and DAP with regard to a temple demolishment issue.

He also commented that MIC should be banned if it incites people to break the law.

We know that in this matter, MIC is just demanding for fair rights from the state for the Indian community from the state.

To divert from this issue, the Menteri Besar of Kedah tried to stir up another new issue, this time the water issue against the Penang State Government.

He demanded that the Penang state government pay the Kedah state government RM50 mil every year as compensation for drawing raw water from its side of the border. He threatened to block off raw water supply from Sungai Muda if Penang fails to pay the compensation.

Now, it’s time for all Malaysian to evaluate both actions and statements from the two Menteri Besar – one from PAS declaring no holiday for Hindus to celebrate Thaipusam in this country and another one from Pakatan Harapan who wants pay cuts to all top guns in the state in support of the rakyat – both for the same reason: COVID-19.

I will let the people to decide.

My humble request to PAS is please don’t make false statements and deceive the Indian community or any others by saying ‘PAS for all’.

This slogan does not portray what you are practising but clearly shows that you are narrow-minded by the way you treat other races. You should practise what you preach.

I hope and don’t want to see any more senseless people in this democratic country that supports PAS’ narrow-mindedness.
