Malaysian singer Siti Sarah succumbs to COVID-19

SINGER Siti Sarah Raisuddin is the latest Malaysian celebrity to have passed away from COVID-19.

According to mStar, the singer, who had been battling COVID-19 while pregnant with her fourth child, has succumbed to the disease while doctors had managed to rescue the baby.

The Kesetiaan singer, 37, passed away at 5.13am on Monday (Aug 9) at the Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

News of her death was shared by her husband Shuib Sepahtu, whose real name is Shahmira Muhamad, on Instagram.

The singer was hospitalised on Aug 4 after suffering from chronic cough and low oxygen levels due to COVID-19. She and her family tested positive on July 27, Malay daily Utusan Malaysia reported.

She was then put under general anesthesia on August 6 for doctors to perform the C-section after her condition took a turn for the worse.

Siti Sarah was survived by her husband and her husband and three other children – Uwais Alqarni (age 10), Dzahira Talita Zahra (age 8), and Ariq Matin (age 6).

Condolences poured in on social media from heartbroken fellow artistes and fans.

In a tweet, independent scholar and political analyst Bridget Walsh wrote:

 

RADIO DJ and YouTube filmmaker Jin Lim wrote, “Rest in peace, Siti Sarah. Prayers out to the family. Such sad news to wake up to.”

User @KimchiLia_ said, “Although she battled COVID-19, she managed to leave a last gift to her husband and family [in the form of] their newborn baby. She is a strong woman battling all of this and now it’s time for her to rest as Allah loves her more. Al-fatihah Siti Sarah Raisuddin.”

User @nlmkz said, “Cried a river when I learned about Siti Sarah and to realise that there are a lot of pregnant mothers out there infected by COVID-19. This is so sad.”

Meanwhile, user @SyedAkramin noted that in addition to Siti Sarah, 359 others lost their lives to COVID-19 yesterday.
