IN A peaceful retaliation to recent incidents of Muslim fanatics reciting Quranic verses that called for demolition of idols at Sri Subramaniar Swamy Temple in Batu Caves, Malaysian Hindus have gathered at the holy Batu Caves temple site today (June 1) to recite prayers and praises to Lord Murugan – the Hindu god of war.
The event at the holy temple site saw the rendering of the Kaniga Sashti Kavasam song in devotion to Lord Murugan while seeking his grace and blessing through the offering of prayers and praises through sacred hymns.
“About 600 people attended this event today. It was done to show that prayers can be done in a peaceful manner without courting controversies,” said Swashna Subramaniam who was the key person behind the event.
Co-organised by digital creator Rajeswary Appahu and volunteers from Hindu Volunteers Movement, the one-day event which started at 9am was done in response to several incidents of Muslims preachers reciting provocative Quranic verses at the temple.
A case in point is the case of Moroccan influencer Abdellatif Ouisa who recited verses that called for the demolition of idols at the temple.
“There were two other cases where foreigners recited Quranic verses. The verses itself attacks non-believers of the Islamic faith,” remarked Global Human Rights Federation (GHRF) chairman S. Shashi Kumar who supported the event.
“There must be a mutual respect at all the places of worshipping as enshrined and protected under Article 11 of the Federal Constitution. Only then, we can live in peace and harmony.”
Participants who attended the rendition today did not only come from Klang Valley. There were devotees from as far Kedah in the north to Johor in the south while some attendees came from Singapore.
The rendition began at 9am and ended about 40 minutes later with some food and beverages offered to participants. – June 1, 2024
