Malaysia’s daily COVID-19 cases reaches an all-time high

THE number of new COVID-19 cases in Malaysia reaches an all-time high of 6,075 since the pandemic started.

Selangor alone clocked in a shocking number of infections at 2,251, while other states in the country didn’t even reach the 1,000 mark.

The closest to Selangor’s number is Johor (699), Kuala Lumpur (660), Kedah (445) and Kelantan (441).

Selangor’s high COVID-19 infection rate might be attributed to the Government’s efforts of has been opening a number of centres to conduct swab tests among the public, even on those who are healthy and show no symptoms of the virus.

Following the news of the emergence of a new COVID-19 variant, it appears that the virus is infecting people without making them noticeably ill, but making them a carrier of the virus instead.

Concerned Malaysian citizen, Fatin Nabila Salim, 28, told FocusM that she is looking forward to getting a swab test done as it might ensure the safety of her family members, particularly her father who has a heart condition.

“I really want to get the test done so that I can find out if I have the virus or not. If I do, then I take the necessary steps. But if I don’t, then I can know for sure that my family and I are safe at home,” she said.

Matching the high trend of infection rate, there were also 46 deaths today, bringing the total COVID-19-related deaths to (2,040).

Apart from that, 3,516 patients have been discharged today, adding to the country’s total of 436,116.

Meanwhile, out of the total 47,340 active cases in Malaysia, 559 of them are in intensive care units. – May 19, 2021
