Malaysia’s trade surplus widens to RM20.9 bil in June 2020

Malaysia’s trade surplus grew by 98.7% to RM20.9 bil in June 2020, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), the largest increase recorded so far.

Previously, the country posted the largest trade surplus in Oct last year with a value of RM17.3 bil, DOSM said.

The widening surplus was caused by a decline in imports by 5.6% year-on-year, valued at RM63 bil, chief statistician Mohd Uzir Mahidin said in a statement.

Malaysia’s total trade stood at RM144.8 bil, expanding by 2.2% compared to the same month last year.
