MARii introduces technology to automate health screening

THE Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) has introduced smart technology to assist the industry in complying with new Covid-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) following the easing of movement restrictions for businesses through the implementation of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).

The technology involved facial recognition (FR) and thermal screening embedded with an Internet of Things (IoT) system to enable contactless monitoring of a company’s workforce.

In a statement today, MARii CEO Datuk Madani Sahari said the end-to-end solution is integrated with the government system designed for industry and business operation monitoring, called the MITI-COVID-19 Intelligent Monitoring System (CIMS).

He said the technology also demonstrated MARii’s intention to cooperate with the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC) led by the Ministry of Health (MoH).

“The technology, developed in close collaboration with G3 Global Bhd, a leading player in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) and IoT businesses, is designed to automate health screening and monitoring activities during business and factory operations in line with guidelines set by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) and MoH to prevent Covid-19 infections.

“Post-MCO, we will have to implement new solutions to fulfil the health monitoring requirements and SOPs within our businesses, and this will definitely add manpower, equipment and operating costs for companies, particularly those with a large number of employees,” he said.

Madani said the technology introduced is an expansion of the CIMS capabilities and featured an integrated system that consisted of face recognition technology, precision cameras, thermo-scanners and an embedded solution that is flexible enough to integrate with a company’s existing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software for monitoring employee attendance systems, payroll and production planning.

“This allows for a system that minimises long-term costs for implementing additional procedures to combat Covid-19 in the workplace.

“As the technology is packed with smart features such as facial recognition and face-mask detection, it has the capabilities of eliminating human errors that come with manual screening checkpoints,” he said.

He added that the technology implementation would start within Perodua and its entire value chain ecosystem. — May 6, 2020, Bernama
