Mass towing at Bukit Bintang sparks advise, debate on proper parking places

THERE Is no greater horror for a car driver to find their vehicle missing from their parking spot.

And that is exactly what happened to a number of drivers recently where DBKL came up in droves to tow off their vehicles for illegal parking.

In a video post on X by amighul deghaman, a netizen could be seen recording her predicament after enjoying a late Damascus meal.

Sadly, the supposedly enjoyable outing ended up with a visit to the traffic police to reclaim her car.

The video has since sparked concerns, with netizens giving advise on where to better park their vehicles in the future so that they too don’t become a victim.

Netizen Hanna Gelisah said Bukit Bintang was not a place for people to park by the side of the road as the path is already narrow. “There are so many malls there,” she said.

“And after that, you are proud to record and show your foolishness and wayward behaviour on TikTok,” said Hadi.

Prompted by the food she ate, Okay claimed that the Port Shawarma was more delicious than Damascus, and that there were many empty parking spots.

“Why don’t you just park your car in the mall? There are so many malls nearby the area,” said Pengiran Muda Ahmad, adding that it is cheaper and safer instead of having one’s car being towed away.

One netizen suggested parking at lalaport, the monorail to Bukit Bintang which allows for three hours of free parking. “Members spend RM1 to get free parking all day,” he said.

Finally, amighul deghaman said that if he wanted to hang out at Bukit Bintang, he would park near Sungai Wang where the entry is only RM8 after 6 pm.

“Low Yat is at RM7. Want cheaper then park at Plaza Imbi which is RM4 per entry after 3 pm. However it is a little creepy parking there. Want to park far away, then go to Lalaport where the first three hours is free. Perhaps easier, use public transport,” he said.

Now with all the pertinent advice out there, we hope drivers wanting to enjoy the ambience of Bukit Bintang do not end up at the police station in a bid to retrieve their car. —Jan 7, 2025
