FANS are heaping praises on former education minister Maszlee Malik who has come under the spotlight after the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) raided YTL Communications Sdn Bhd’s office yesterday (Sept 4) as part of its probe into the now defunct 1BestariNet project.
The former Simpang Renggam MP had in September 2021 alleged that the then home minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had pressured twice former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to get him to step down during the 22-month Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration for preferring the “free Google Classroom app” to 1BestariNet’s cloud-based Frog VLE.
“I feel like I’ve to thank @maszlee for he even lost his post because of this 1BestariNet issue,” tweeted Injang (@Injang_Nation) on the X platform in response to MACC’s raid at YTL Communications’ office.
“When I tagged him on Twitter during his tenure as education minister about the issue of Sabah and Sarawak teachers, he quickly brought it into the Parliament; he had indeed performed.”
Pasai ni aku rasa kena berterima kasih dengan @maszlee. Member sampai hilang jawatan kot sebab persoal pasai 1BestariNet ni. Walhal masa jadi menteri pendidikan, aku tag dia isu pasai cikgu sabah sarawak di twitter ja, dia terus bawak masuk parlimen, punya la perform. https://t.co/HTTAoWEkx7

For context, the MACC has launched an investigation into a payment claim related to the Education Ministry’s (MOE) 1BestariNet service tender valued at RM4 bil which was awarded to YTL Communications Sdn Bhd in 2011 (when Muhyiddin was the education minister).
Sources disclosed that anti-graft agency which conducted raids at a government office and the YTL Communications’ office in Kuala Lumpur had seized several documents with the commission in the process of identifying witnesses to assist in its investigation.
Confirming the MACC probe into its subsidiary, YTL Power International Bhd which has pledged full cooperation said the project was awarded to YTL Communications following an open tender involving 19 companies that tendered bids for the project.
YTL Communications was selected for being the most “technically compliant and most cost-effective bid”.
“The project was certified by the MOE as being successfully completed at the end of the contract period on June 30, 2019,” YTL Power added.
Another netizen Laga Cawan 🌺(@LagaCawan) shared a video clip of Maszlee revealing how Muhyiddin who is now the Bersatu president and Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman describing him (Maszlee) as “stubborn” for not renewing the1BestariNet contract merely because he had wanted “to save the rakyat’s money”,

“Imagine how tedious it would be during the movement control order (MCO) period for schoolchildren to learn how to use Frog VLE which Muhyiddin loved so much,” asserted Laga Cawan.
“(Maszlee’s successor) Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin was far more unreliable. The biggest failure in history.” – Sept 5, 2024
