THE Mat Rempit menace (illegal street racing or stunt biking) shows no signs of abating despite efforts from the relevant authorities such as the police and Road Transport Department (RTD).
These daredevils pose a constant threat to other road users and to themselves as well. However, this public nuisance does not appear to be going anywhere anytime soon.
Perhaps a recent video that has gone viral may help stem the tide. Posted on X (formerly Twitter) by Malaysia Most Viral (@MALAYSIAVIRALLL), the video apparently shows the aftermath of a terrible accident involving several motorcycles believed to have been commandeered by Mat Rempit.

Shockingly in the video, there appears part of a severed leg lying on the road. The authorities may want to consider using shock tactics to curb the Mat Rempit menace by circulating this video as a public service announcement (PSA).
For now, suffice to say that the clip has gone viral, having attracted almost 410,000 views at the time of writing and no small amount of scorn from netizens.
Plenty of netizens lamented the poor choices being made by the youth of today in deciding to put their beings at risk by indulging in this most reckless of “motorsports”.
More than a few comments pointed out that it is the families who have to bear the consequences when things go awry for the Mat Rempit.
Many highlighted the misplaced priorities among youth who indulge in these road stunts.
One netizen echoed the sentiment of the poster by saying it is a waste of taxpayer’s monies in treating these vermin, going as far as to say no assistance whatsoever should be proffered.
One netizen pointed out that the ill-fated Mat Rempit can now look forward to riding a three-wheeled motorcycle designed for handicapped riders.
One particular comment put things in perspective by comparing the scenario with Palestinians just trying to stay alive in their besieged homeland with local youth seemingly happy to risk everything just for an adrenaline rush.
By and large there was very little sympathy for the victim(s) in the video, reflecting society’s sentiment towards the Mat Rempit.
One netizen though claims that it is a prosthetic limb that is lying on the road. This remains unverified.
With another questioning the lack of blood around the severed limb.
While another claimed the victim did not survive the crash though this, too, remains unverified.
As suggested above, perhaps this video and others that tell the unvarnished truth be used to ram home the message to these road terrorists.
In the meantime, this “victim” can look forward to posting “sad content” on social media if he ever survives the horrific crash. – June 12, 2024
