Maybank’s service downtime ignites netizens’ creative juice, meme galore ensues

EARLIER today, Maybank took to social media to inform the public that its debit card, web application and website users would be facing intermittent slowness due to unspecified reasons.

“Kindly be informed that our FPX (Financial Process Exchange) payment platform, debit card usage and MAE app are temporarily unavailable, and we are currently experiencing intermittent slowness on M2U MY app and Maybank2u web.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and are working to resolve the matter as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding,” it said via Twitter.

The tweet trended as number one on the social media platform, with over 2,000 people commenting on the bank’s transaction issues.

Despite assuring the public that it would work to resolve the matter soon, it did not stop netizens from expressing concern over their deposits, with some even poking fun at Maybank.

User Asrul Muzaffar posted a dejected looking tiger and said: “Rimau @MyMaybank right now.”

Fellow user Her Royal Highness Duchess of Lilac posted a picture of tiger taking a nap, adding: “Monday blues. Maybank ok ke tu? (Monday blues…are you okay?)

Netizen Special Agent Burhan Cooper posted meme of World Wrestling Entertainment star Big Show crying…with a caption saying: “Maybank down on my payday.”

Not nearing festivities please

While some netizens are taking the matter by their stride, others expressed concern over their deposits and payments, urging the bank to act on it soon.

“@MyMaybank I made a Grab Wallet top up during the morning. Grab side failed to receive, Maybank side minus money already. M2U app can’t check transaction number. Please advise,” said user Chan Wern Shen.

User Raf said that he was having trouble accessing his Maybank application and urged Maybank to explain the matter.

“Having issue to login. App says my password/username was incorrect. This never occurred to me, could this be happening due to what’s going kn over at Maybank?”

Netizen Sophia remarked: “Maybank breakdown is really not at the right time. Payday before raya some more. Geleng kepala (shaking my head).” – April 25. 2022
