AN MCA leader has called for greater attention to longstanding community issues in Sri Petaling, saying residents continue to face problems involving traffic congestion, parking shortages, cleanliness and public facility management despite years of complaints.
Seputeh MCA Division chief Matthew Lee Kah Hing’s remarks come amid renewed discussion over infrastructure and community management issues in Sri Petaling, one of the most densely populated areas in Kuala Lumpur.
Lee said residents have repeatedly raised concerns over traffic flow, insufficient parking facilities, obstructed pedestrian walkways and the maintenance of public amenities, but many of these issues remain unresolved.
“These are not new problems. Residents have been raising them for many years, and it is reasonable for the public to expect tangible improvements,” he said.
Lee noted that Seputeh MP Teresa Kok has represented the constituency since 1999 and said voters were entitled to assess the effectiveness of long-term representation based on outcomes experienced by the community.
“People do not vote merely to hear promises or explanations. They want to see practical solutions and improvements in their daily lives,” he continued.
He added that elected representatives should remain focused on local development issues and continue engaging residents throughout their term of office.
Lee also questioned whether areas that have long been represented by the same political leadership should have made greater progress in addressing recurring community concerns.
“Residents deserve a safe, comfortable and well-managed living environment. Longstanding issues should not be allowed to persist indefinitely,” he stressed.
At the same time, Lee called on Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh and the relevant authorities to work together to address issues affecting residents in the area.
“As the minister responsible for Federal Territories affairs, she should help coordinate efforts among the relevant agencies and departments to ensure these concerns are addressed effectively,” he said. ‒ June 10, 2026
