MCA singles out DAP candidate for debate following BM skill diss

MCA HAS trained its sights on DAP’s candidate for Johor Jaya Liow Cai Tung for a debate in Bahasa Malaysia.

This came after Johor DAP chairman Liew Chin Tong’s verbal attack on at least 10 out of 15 MCA candidates on Tuesday (March 8) when he said that they cannot speak fluently in the national language without a script.

According to MCA’s Johor Jaya candidate Chan San San, Liew’s claims were baseless, adding that he was “making spurious allegations and engaging in dirty tactics to sully his opponents”.

Chan also explained that MCA candidates were selected through a stringent selection process and went on to challenge DAP’s Liow to a debate in Bahasa Malaysia.

“Chan agrees that a leader needs to be fluent in Bahasa Malaysia in order to properly voice the concerns of their voters in the state assembly, to better serve them and bring better development to the area,” said MCA in a statement on their Facebook page.

“Therefore Chan hopes that Liow will be courageous enough to accept the challenge to debate so voters can see DAP candidates’ capability in speaking Bahasa Malaysia.”

The party also published a promotional poster announcing a debate between Chan and Liow at the Pasir Gudang MCA headquarters tomorrow (March 10).

“Given the fact that Liew has claimed that DAP candidates speak the national language better, there is no reason for Liow to decline the challenge, otherwise it will only prove that it’s only empty words from Liew’s end,” MCA added. – March 9, 2022
