FOLLOWING the departure of Datuk Fu Ah Kiow, Star Media Group Bhd (SMG) has appointed Tan Sri Chor Chee Heung as its new independent non-executive chairman.
His appointment will take effect on March 15, which is also coincidentally his birthday.
Born in Alor Setar, Kedah in 1955, Chor was called to the Bar at the prestigious Lincoln’s Inn.
He served as a Barisan Nasional MP for five terms, between 1990 and 2013, at the Alor Setar constituency.
He also held various Government positions; Deputy Home Minister, Deputy Finance Minister and Housing and Local Government Minister, from 2008 to 2013.
After leaving public service, Chor started a career in the corporate sector, becoming Malaysian Aviation Commission commissioner and Melati Ehsan Holdings Bhd adviser.
The veteran politician also served as an independent director at Tenaga Nasional Bhd, from 2015 to 2018. – March 9, 2021.
