MCMC issues revised invite for Jendela Phase 1 participation

THE Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has issued a revised invitation for interested and eligible licensees under the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) 1998 to partake the installation of network facilities and deployment of network service under the Jalinan Digital Negara (JENDELA) Phase 1.

This invitation replaces the original invitation issued on Nov 20, according to MCMC.

“The revised invitation encompasses a scope of work that is divided into two parts. Part 1 covers the installation of passive infrastructure, while Part 2 covers the installation of active infrastructure and the deployment of public cellular services,” MCMC pointed out.

“Interested licensees can opt to participate in either Part 1 or Part 2.”

MCMC said the revised scope of work and eligibility criteria is meant to expedite implementation as it will allow a greater number of licensees to participate in this exercise which covers 1,661 locations in 106 clusters nationwide.

The closing date for registration of interest is on Feb 2 with the submission of draft universal service plans by interested and eligible licensees on March 31.

A RM21 bil national digital infrastructure plan, JENDELA was designed to steer Malaysia towards greater digital connectivity by boosting the efficiency of the national infrastructure and optimising spectrum usage.

Last August, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced that the JENDELA action plan – which is part of the 12th Malaysia Plan (2021-2025) – would lay the foundation for comprehensive and high-quality broadband coverage to prepare the country for the transition towards 5G technology.

MCMC chairman Dr Fadhlullah Suhaimi Abdul Malek has said the tender for infrastructure works at 1,661 sites involving an investment value of RM4.6 bil under JENDELA would be closed on March 31.

JENDELA will be rolled out in two phases with Phase 1 to be executed from 2020 to 2022 and Phase 2 from 2022-2025. – Jan 15, 2020
