MCO extended to Feb 4 with new COVID-19 cases reaching 3,170

MALAYSIANS are beginning to sigh with dread as the country recorded 3,170 new COVID-19 cases today, despite the reimplementation of the movement control order (MCO 2.0) that started last week on Jan 13.

Although MCO 2.0 was supposed to end by this Sunday (Jan 23), the Government has announced further extension of the restriction order to Feb 4, 2021 to six states in Malaysia as well as federal territories.

According to Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, the extension was due to a spike in new COVID-19 cases within the last 14 days, despite the reinforcement of MCO 2.0.

Meanwhile, in his daily COVID-19 update, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah announced that there were 2,490 recoveries today, totalling up to 129,152.

Out of the total number of new cases today, eight of them were imported.

There were also two recorded deaths today, bringing the total number to 642. – Jan 21, 2021
