Medical association in eager anticipation for unveiling of Budget 2022

THE Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) has expressed its anticipation for the reveal of the contents of Budget 2022 to be tabled in Parliament on Friday (Oct 28).

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has hinted of various goodies for the healthcare sector which will allow the sector to move forward in the transformation of healthcare in the country while strengthening the existing system, said association president Dr Koh Kar Chai.

“Extra spending for the health of our nation is to be appreciated and hopefully this will pave the way for reforms and not only piecemeal improvements to keep everyone happy,” he added.

Dr Koh further expressed his hopes that not only will there be an increased amount of allocation to healthcare but that the proposed funding is directed to where it is needed the most.

“This includes the Public Private Partnership proposals in healthcare which will allow for good use to the budget allocated and ultimately with a view to bring down total healthcare expenses,” he remarked.

On Wednesday (Oct 27), Ismail Sabri said that the 2022 Budget will ensure continued efforts to strengthen the national healthcare system, including emphasising research and development (R&D) so that the country is prepared in the event of a new wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition, Budget 2022 would focus on protecting, restoring the lives and livelihoods of the people and businesses, as well as rebuilding the country’s resilience and spur more sustainable post-pandemic reforms. – Oct 28, 2021
