MEF cheers for Gov’t’s decision to let eateries open till 10pm

THE Government’s decision to allow eateries to operate until 10pm starting today will alleviate some of the severe challenges faced by businesses since the movement control order (MCO 2.0) took effect, said the Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF).

President Datuk Dr Syed Hussain Syed Husman said the decision to extend the operating hours was welcomed, especially for the restaurant operators who were facing massive losses, and some had even been forced to shut down.

“With the drastic drop in the number of customers during the MCO 2.0, restaurant operators were desperately struggling to meet their cost of operations, such as rental, salaries, loan repayments and utility costs, and the increasing prices of goods.

“In view of the circumstances, we are thankful to the Government for its continual interventions to fine tune the delicate balance between saving lives and livelihoods,” he said in a statement earlier today.

Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced on Thursday that the government had agreed to allow eateries and food delivery services in states that come under the MCO to operate until 10 pm starting Jan 22 from 8pm previously.

Syed Hussain also reminded employers to abide strictly to the standard operating procedure (SOP) and continue to be committed to stop the spread of COVID-19. – Jan 22, 2021
