Melaka polls caused by dysfunctional politicians, Kadir Jasin says

A FORMER Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia leader said that Perikatan Nasional, Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan seems to collapsing on one another as Melaka polls nears.

“The polls were triggered after four state assemblypersons; two from UMNO, one from Bersatu and one independent withdrew support from an UMNO chief minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali.

“Oddly, Perikatan and its ally UMNO will be contesting against each other. Not only is Bersatu getting played out but it is also getting humiliated in the open as all six Melaka UMNO divisions rejected any cooperation with it,” Kadir Jasin said, in a Facebook post.

On that note, he said he found it strange that UMNO was relying on its former president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s popularity to win the election.

Kadir added it was hilarious that the party was putting its faith in a convicted felon, creating history where a political party was relying on a criminal to lead its election campaign.

“It’s obvious that UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has more faith in Najib as opposed to his deputy Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan or even Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“Perhaps, it’s because both Najib and Zahid are facing the same situation,” he opined.

Pakatan at odds with itself

Elaborating on PAS, Kadir said it was arrogant of the party to suggest its allies to use its party symbol for the Melaka polls despite losing all 24 state seats it contested in the last general election.

“But PAS had decided yesterday to contest using the Perikatan symbol instead. I guess the Islamist party’s die-hard supporters will be disappointed.”

As for Pakatan, it was obvious that its coalition partners were at odds with one another on whether or not to allow three out of the four state assemblypersons that collapsed the previous state administration to contest under its ticket.

“If the opposition does accept the trio under its wing, then it will be no different from Perikatan which collapsed Pakatan’s administration last year,” Kadir stated.

He remarked: “This is the reality facing Melaka voters due to our power-crazy politicians in the state.” – Nov 2, 2021.
