“Melaka promo video not focusing on ‘pendatang’ race but it’s all about attracting Chinese tourism dollar”

PRO-Madani backers have come out in droves to slam slanders levelled at the 50th Diplomatic Malaysia-China 2024 video “Folk Song Gala” with the backdrop of Melaka after it was mistaken for the Visit Melaka 2024 promotional video.

This came about after opposition-slant social media influencer 𝐄𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐤 𝐑𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝 🇲🇾✨✨(@RichardPower) teased the said 15-minute travelog musical shot in Melaka from June 9-13 by the Guangxi TV station as “looking more like a visit Guangzhou video”.

To make matters worse, another diehard opposition keyboard warrior MY 🇲🇾 🇵🇸 (@saythenameayy) capitalised on Encik Richard’s remarks by injecting a racial slur that the video gave an impression that the Malays “are seemingly the pendatang (migrants)” when they are the majority race in Malaysia.

Fortunately, the ill-intent of the deemed opposition cybertroopers was foiled by Tiada Nama Hanya Kata (@ShoibZahari) who cleared the air over ‘mistaken identity’ between the Mo Li Hua/Rasa Sayang-themed “Folk Song Gala” video which involved 120 volunteers of Visit Melaka 2024 and the Visit Melaka 2024 promotional video.

“You are a bas*ard, @RichardPower,” lambasted Tiada Nama Hanya Kata, alluding to the mal-intent of the former to exploit a racial narrative.

“The 15-minute ‘Folk Song Gala’ video (Mandarin-based) contains various scenes of culture, local music and people. The official Visit Melaka 2024 video is a Malay song version.”

Tiada Nama Hanya Kata then took the pain to get to the bottom of the confusion by explaining that the “Folk Song Gala” is a new culture entertainment trend in China today that entails blending of the original local culture with modernity “to create a short melo-drama or Melo MTV”.

Above all else, Tiada Nama Hanya Kata also contended that the 15-minute duration video did incorporate the popular Rasa Sayang folk song which “is representative of the Malay or Malaysian culture” to aptly integrate cultural similarity between China and Malaysia.

And doubtlessly the icing on the cake is that “160 million Chinese citizens conducted searches on Melaka on the WeChat platform between June 14 and 15 upon the release of the video”. Moreover, his is on top of globally renowned Chinese actress Fan Bingbing tasked to woo one million Chinese tourists to Melaka this year in her capacity as Melaka’s tourism ambassador.

Little wonder that brickbats were hurled at both Encik Richard and MY 🇲🇾 🇵🇸. – Aug 2, 2024
