Men slashed with machetes in Nilai coffee shop; netizens shocked at state of lawlessness

A VULGAR display of violence and thuggery.

In a scene straight out of a movie, diners at a Nilai coffee shop were left running helter-skelter when a group of thugs carried out what seemed like a targetted attack.

Armed with what look liked machetes, the masked assailants ran in and started slashing away at a specific table of diners. One victim was left sprawled on the floor but managed to crawl to safety before the assailants made their getaway in a waiting car.

The fact that the car’s plate was visible on the CCTV showed that these thugs were completely nonchalant about being identified or were just amateurs.

District police chief Superintendent Abdul Malik Hasim said five victims were injured in the attack. They were sent to the Tuanku Jaafar Hospital, Seremban and were reportedly in stable condition.

The CCTV footage was shared on X by MYNEWSHUB (@mynewshub) with the post having generated 722.8k views at the time of writing with many netizens expressing shock and horror at this violent scenario.

Some likened the scene to countries where drug cartels ruled, expressing amazement that such an attack could take place in a public place such as a restaurant.

While another mentioned the trauma for those who unfortunately witnessed this incident when all they wanted to do was enjoy a peaceful dinner.

Of course, some took the opportunity to pass political comment on the scenario. Some saw it as sign of the times as this was becoming common place under the Madani administration.

While some laid the blame at the door of “Najib supporters”.

While one sarcastically trotted out the usual “blame DAP” line.

Some netizens were amazed that the victim in a blue t-shirt was seemingly immune to the blows of the attackers.

Alluding to race of the thugs, one netizen cautioned to never cross their paths. He counselled that these types of gangsters were prone to emotional outbursts who would chop first, talk later.

Moreover, as these Indian thugs were also larger physically, it was best to just steer clear and avoid unwanted trouble.

A few cheekily suggested that the attack was punishment for daring to light up inside an eatery as the victim in the blue shirt could clearly be seen smoking.

Whether it is for smoking or otherwise, such incidences highlight that the criminal class has become even more emboldened, with places such as Puchong, Klang and now, Nilai, garnering a reputation akin to the lawless Wild West of TV shows.

Will the police be able to apprehend the perpetrators or will this be classified as ‘unsolved’?

The outcome will be telling indicator of the state of the nation. – Jan 13, 2025
