Meta bans influencer Andrew Tate from FB, IG

CONTROVERSIAL social media influencer Andrew Tate, who previously said women “must bear some responsibility” for being raped, has been banned from Facebook and Instagram.

The 35-year-old, who boasted almost five mil followers on Instagram alone, has already been banned on Twitter.

According to the BBC, Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, issued the ban after he violated its policy on dangerous organisations and individuals.

Tate, who has been described as a “misogynist”, is notorious for airing his somewhat “problematic” thoughts and opinions on women.

He once said that women should just “have children, stay home and make coffee”. On another occassion, he said husbands have “ultimate control” over their wives.

Despite his controversial views, Tate rose to prominence on various social media platforms in the last few months, especially on TikTok, even as netizens question the impact of his messaging on children and teenagers.

Responding to the ban, Tate told LADbible that he has been receiving “10,000 death threats a day” as a result.

Tate, who has since deactivated his Instagram in protest, added that he had dedicated over $1 mil to charities supporting women in the last two weeks leading up to his ban.

He was also quoted as saying: “It is very unfortunate that old videos of me, where I was playing a comedic character, have been taken out of context and amplified to the point where people believe absolutely false narratives about me.”

The influencer, who often portrays himself as a cigar-smoking playboy, has accumulated more Google searches than former US President Donald Trump and celebrity-actress Kim Kardashian.

Tate, who was born in Chicago, US, and raised in Luton, England, now resides in Romania. He is also a former boxer.

In 2016, Tate appeared on the British version of Big Brother. His stint on the show did not last long after he was removed from the popular TV show after a viral video surfaced in which he was seen allegedly beating a woman with a belt. – Aug 20, 2022
