MetLife and AmMetLife sign UN Women’s Empowerment Principles

METLIFE, Inc has announced that it has become the first US-based insurance company to sign the United Nations Women’s Empowerment Principles, a series of commitments created by UN Women and the UN Global Compact to promote gender equality in the workplace and society.

MetLife president and CEO Michel Khalaf said: “MetLife’s support for gender equality reflects our purpose of building a more confident future for all. Empowering women is more than a core value for us – it is a key element of our business strategy. Partnering with the UN will help us strengthen our focus and take our commitment to the next level.”

The UN Women’s Empowerment Principles are:

• Principle 1: Establish high-level corporate leadership for gender equality

• Principle 2: Treat all women and men fairly at work – respect and support human rights and non-discrimination

• Principle 3: Ensure the health, safety and well-being of all women and men workers

• Principle 4: Promote education, training and professional development for women

• Principle 5: Implement enterprise development, supply chain and marketing practices that empower women

• Principle 6: Promote equality through community initiatives and advocacy

• Principle 7: Measure and publicly report on progress to achieve gender equality

Commenting on AmMetLife Insurance Bhd’s support for the United Nations Women’s Empowerment Principles, CEO, Ramzi Toubassy said: “At AmMetLife, we are committed to advocating and promoting gender equality in the workplace.
