Metrasquare emerges as Melaka’s formidable commercial, cultural hub

THE Melaka Trade Square (Metrasquare), a commercial hub located at Ayer Keroh is steadfast in becoming a popular destination for commercial, work, entertainment and arts with the opening of three new outlets.

The new outlets which are set to open by end- 2022 include (i) Regus which is Melaka’s first flexible workspace; (ii) SHENGLIFE Sdn Bhd (a wellness centre); and (iii) the Cahaya Suria Confinement Centre.

One of Metrasquare’ key attractions will be the Cheng Ho Cultural Gallery in STI Experiential Centre which was formerly located in Jonker Street. China’s ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing recently visited the Gallery that exhibits the life of Zheng He and his voyage six centuries ago.

In addition, the Straits Designers’ Gallery by Sheng Tai International Sdn Bhd is now at Metrasquare. The gallery is part of the diversified property developer’s on-going efforts to re-shape Melaka into a creative and cultural hub of the future through its properties.

Measuring at 5,500 sq ft, the gallery showcases over 60 local designers’ latest ready-to-wear collections, shoes, clutches and accessories. Other outlets include Uncle ‘K’ Kopitiam, ‘Q’ Bistro, OldTown White Coffee and Assam House.

“We are pleased to welcome these prominent brands to our high-quality and diverse tenants at Metrasquare,” commented Sheng Tai International’s founder and chairman Datuk Leong Sir Ley. “These new additions reflect our commitment to strengthen the state of Melaka from an economic stand-point, providing job opportunities as well as encouraging local entrepreneurship.”

“Moreover, it is an example of yet another successful turnaround and revitalisation of what was previously an abandoned development into a commercially viable economic contributor,” added Leong.

Metrasquare was an abandoned project under Plentifield Marketing Sdn Bhd which Sheng Tai International took over in 2017 in order to develop Metrasquare further. Plentifield Marketing had abandoned the development when it was half completed.

Sheng Tai International came in to revitalise the project by settling all the bad debts and guaranteed rental return (GRR) scheme of the initial investors as well as to re-strategise the Metrasquare masterplan.

Today, Metrasquare is a six-acre commercial development comprising serviced suites, a three-star premium hotel called Hotel Metrasquare as well as retail lots, meeting and conference facilities, F&B amenities in addition to the Melaka historical gallery and art social space. Also located in its vicinity is the five-star Ames Hotel.

Located just five-minute away from the Ayer Keroh toll off the North-South Expressway, Metraquare is also close to the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC), government offices, hypermarkets and a host of tourist attractions such as Melaka Zoo and Night Safari; Melaka Bird Park; Wonderland Theme Park; Melaka Planetarium; and the World’s Bees Museum. – June 26, 2022
