MHTC to accelerate digital, tech transformation in Malaysia’s healthcare ecosystem

THE Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) has found a strategic digital partner in the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), a global non-profit thought leader in health innovation and public policy, to strengthen the Malaysian healthcare ecosystem.

Following a memorandum of understanding (MOU) inked between MHTC and HMSS, the latter will also undertake to boost Malaysia’s global branding via knowledge sharing, capacity building, and network-building initiatives.

This comes about as one of the key components of MHTC’s strategies to deliver world-class medical, service, and operational excellence is to redefine the patient experience through a unified and collaborative approach to digitalisation, according to MHTC’s CEO Mohd Daud Mohd Arif.

“Hence, our collaboration with HIMSS takes us a step forward in this journey,” he pointed out in a media.

“By leveraging HIMSS’ expertise in digital and technology and its vast network across the globe, we can forge more pathways for the industry to strengthen our digital and technological capabilities and explore new avenues to amplify the Malaysia Healthcare brand.”

Having served the global health community for more than 60 years, HIMSS has a strong track record in providing thought leadership insights and consultancy to improve the quality, safety, cost-effectiveness, and accessibility of healthcare through best practices in information technology and management systems.

“We are pleased to partner with MHTC and having Malaysia as part of our global network, working together with us in advancing the transformation of the global health ecosystem through the power of information and technology,” noted HMSS Asia Pacific vice president and executive director Simon Lin.

The areas of collaboration in the MOU will help foster innovation and sustainable growth of the Malaysia healthcare travel industry through:

  • Knowledge sharing and capacity building initiatives to push for continuous digital and technology adoption in the Malaysia Healthcare ecosystem;
  • Strategic thought leadership initiatives and build a value proposition for Malaysia by leveraging both parties’ resources, expertise, and capabilities in the healthcare travel and wellness;
  • Leverage HIMSS’ regional and global network as well as thought leadership platforms to profile and increase Malaysia Healthcare’s reach, especially in identified focus markets;
  • Forge new avenues for strategic industry collaboration such as MHTC’s Flagship Medical Tourism Hospital Programme to Groom Malaysia’s private hospitals to adopt digital maturity model for medical and service excellence and government-to-government partnership for patient referrals and knowledge sharing.

“We have seen how the pandemic further accelerated digital adoption across all industries, causing the industry players to either brought them to the brink of collapse, stagnate, survive, or thrive,” observed Mohd Daud.

“Thus, as we transition into the endemic era, we trust that continued innovation and digitalisation of the industry will continue to be of importance in pushing the industry forward and in ensuring sustainable growth.”

Towards this end, MHTC welcomes local, regional, and global industry players to explore areas of collaboration with us in improving patient experience with digital solutions, thereby providing healthcare travellers with seamless, hassle-free, and quality care for their peace of mind. – Jan 13, 2023
