MIC tick off PKR to mind its own biz by looking for a winning formula, not meddling in BN affairs

MIC strategy director Datuk Sivarraajh Chandran took his PKR counterpart Sim Tze Tzin to task for being a busybody in the affairs of Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties, specifically on seat allocation matters in the Melaka state election.

Both MCA and MIC are BN components.

He also advised Sim to look for a new formula for PKR to win in the election since PKR has been on the losing side since the Sabah state elections.

PKR’s former deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli who is now a co-leader of BERSAMA was popular for his winning formula in the elections.

Sivaraajjh also questioned why were PKR leaders being a busybody to the point of questioning the relevance of MCA and MIC in BN when PKR itself is a party which had its own coalition, namely Pakatan Harapan (PH).

The Dewan Negara member further hinted that Sim’s statement raised the question on whether honest discussions on the nation’s political future exist or Sim’s statement were rhetoric that would worsen party relations.

Sim who is PKR’s strategy director had claimed that MCA and MIC are irrelevant since both the parties did not even oppose UMNO which has formed an alliance with PAS that heads the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition to face the upcoming Melaka state polls.

Sim who is also the Investment, Trade and Industry Deputy Minister added that the views of both the BN components can be brushed aside.

Sim’s shot at both the parties was made when he was asked to comment regarding the differing stance between UMNO and MCA on the number of seats.

UMNO reduced the number of seats MCA could contest in the Melaka state election from seven to two, prompting MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong to stage a walkout protest during the BN candidate-naming function.

A meeting was held involving both Zahid and Wee. While Zahid viewed the meeting as positive, Wee differed. At present, MCA would only be defending the two seats it has via Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem in Machap Jaya and Datuk Lim Ban Hong in Klebang.

The MIC leader went on to advise Sim not to comment on others’ weaknesses. He added that each party should show its strength based on its service record and the confidence that people have towards the party.

As for the current disagreement within BN, Sivarraajh is confident that BN doesn’t need outsiders to determine which party is relevant or not. The BN components can evaluate their own strengths, weaknesses and the future of the coalition collectively.

MIC is contesting one seat in Gadek. Nomination day is scheduled to be held on Oct 31 and polling is on Nov 14. – Oct 28, 2026
