FOREIGN investors were net buyers for the week ended Nov 5 which saw marginal net inflow amounting to RM67.94 mil on a short trading week following the Deepavali public holiday on Thursday (Nov 6).
This marks the fifth week of net inflow by foreign investors.
“As the market reopened last Monday (Nov 1), local institutions and retailers were net sellers and net buyers respectively to the tune of -RM329.7 mil and RM314.30 mil,” observed MDF Research in its weekly fund flow report.
Meanwhile, foreign investors were net buyers to the tune of RM14.97 mil despite sentiment turning negative following announcement of the one-off cukai makmur on Friday (Oct 29).
“It seems that foreign investors were unperturbed by the announcement and continue to be net buyers of the local market,” added the research house.
Foreign investors were net buyer for majority of the week. The largest foreign inflow was recorded on Friday (Nov 5) with the largest outflow on Wednesday (Nov 3) to the tune of RM87.07 mil and -RM94.20 mil respectively.
Retailers were net buyers every day during the week. Their largest net buying was recorded on Monday (Nov 1) while their smallest net buying was on Tuesday (Nov 2) to the tune of RM314.30 mil and RM32.22 mil respectively.
For the week, retailers net bought RM469.34 mil worth of equities in Bursa Malaysia.
Meanwhile, local institutions recorded cumulative weekly net selling to the tune of -RM536.82 mil. They were net sellers for three of the four trading days with the largest net selling on Monday (Nov 1) amounting to -RM329.70 mil while their smallest net outflow was on Tuesday (Nov 2) at -RM92.06 mil.
Since the beginning of 2021, retailers have cumulatively been the only net buyers in Bursa Malaysia to the tune of RM11.17 bil. Local institutions and foreign investors were net sellers amounting to -RM9.06 bil and -RM2.11 bil respectively.
In terms of participation, retail investors, local institutions and foreign investors recorded a weekly movement of -22.04%, -10.17% and 11.25% respectively in average daily trade value (ADTV).
The top three stocks with the highest net money inflow last week were Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) (RM5.42 mil), Inari Amerton Bhd (RM3.27 mil) and PPB Group Bhd (RM2.90). – Nov 8, 2021
