Minimum qualification for civil service entry raised to SPM

THE government has updated its civil service entry requirements to align with national education policy changes. The minimum qualification for many positions has been raised from the Pentaksiran Tingkatan Tiga (PT3) or Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) to the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM).

Eleven service schemes affected by this change include roles such as forest rangers, wildlife assistants, vehicle drivers, and security guards.

These roles will now require SPM qualifications, and the relevant service schemes are being reclassified and merged into a new General Service Assistant scheme for some positions.

Moreover, some positions will be reappointed under new SPM-qualified schemes and the qualification requirements for several SPM-level service schemes will be expanded to include vocational qualifications like the Sijil Vokasional Malaysia (SVM) and the Malaysian Skills Diploma (DKM).

This aims to provide skilled candidates more opportunities to join the civil service. – Sept 14, 2024
