Missing 6-year-old Albertine Leo found in Selangor

A six-year-old girl who went missing at a shopping mall in Johor Bahru on Saturday (July 20) has been found safe at a hotel in Batang Kali, Selangor, confirmed Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan.

Albertine Leo Jia Hui was reported missing during the Bon Odori event at Eco Galleria in Iskandar Puteri on Saturday.

At a separate press conference in Johor Bahru, Johor police chief Comm M. Kumar said a police team raided a room at the budget hotel in Selangor at around 4.30am.

“We found the missing child in the hotel room. The team also arrested a 31-year-old man who was with the victim,” he was reported as saying.

Comm Kumar added that police have informed Albertine’s parents about her rescue and the child is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.

“Initially, we arrested four suspects, including two women, around Iskandar Puteri and Johor Bahru. Their arrest then led us to the fifth suspect and the victim.

“The arrests and the girl’s rescue were made following public information,” he said, adding that all five suspects have no ties to the victim and her family.

Comm Kumar said police were investigating the case under Section 365 of the Penal Code for kidnapping and Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

“We are still trying to determine the motive as no ransom demand was made by the suspects,” he added.

Three of the suspects were brought to the Johor Bahru Court Complex on Tuesday morning for the remand process. – July 23, 2024
