THE website of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) has crashed following the influx of businesses making their applications to be allowed to resume work in Phase 3 of the Movement Control Order (MCO).
This follows the announcement by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin during his address on April 10 that additional sectors will be allowed to operate during the MCO, with the list of sectors announced shortly after.
The application process started at 9am on April 13, but the sheer number of users caused the site to crash. As of 2.36pm, the site remains down for the count.
MITI had responded, offering its apologies, stating that over 100,000 companies had applied as of 10.35am, and asked for businesses to continue trying with the server directing them to a slot once it is available.
Businesses have taken to social media to air their complaints about this, with some netizens questioning MITI about how they could not have foreseen this increase in traffic and prepared accordingly.
Hi, due to heavy traffic, the MITI Portal shows temporarily inaccessible. More than 100k companies have applied so far in the system. Please keep trying and the server will direct when a slot is available. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused. Thank you.

The application process, which is fully digital, did not require the uploading of any documents during application, but businesses were asked to “have the relevant documents on hand.” – April 13, 2020
