MMA: “Nab those involved in fake vaccination certificates!”

THE Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) has urged the authorities to go all out in their investigation and weed out all of those involved in the issuing of fake vaccination certificates without jabs and ensure they face the full force of the law.

“We want all those who are involved to be brought to face the full force of the law and the heaviest punishments should be meted out as this is a serious offence that could put countless lives in danger,” said association president Dr Koh Kar Chai.

Dr Koh went on to express his shock that more than 5,000 vaccination certificates were issued by a clinic in Gombak to individuals without giving them the required COVID-19 vaccinations.

“We will not allow a few black sheep to tarnish the good name and reputation of the medical profession,” he commented in a statement.

“MMA will support the sternest action taken against any medical practitioner found to be involved in such irresponsible and criminal acts.

“For registered practitioners, their licenses to practice medicine can be revoked by the Malaysian Medical Council.

“Meanwhile the Private Facility Enforcement Unit at the Health Ministry (MOH) should also take other stern measures such as the immediate shutting down the premises and charging those found to be involved in court.”

Dr Koh further said that just the day before MMA had received a complaint from an individual on fake vaccination certificates.

“We will be lodging a police report [based on the complaint]. The public is encouraged to email their complaints to [email protected],” he said.

According to news reports, more than 5,600 names of people believed to have been fraudulently registered on the MySejahtera system were found in laptops confiscated by the Selangor police last Friday (Jan 14).

Selangor police chief Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed said that four men and three women were arrested after a raid on a clinic following an investigation into a Whatsapp message offering fake COVID-19 vaccination certificates.

At a press conference, Arjunaidi said the clinic, which was operating for the past few months, was selling the fake vaccination certificates for RM500 each.

This comes after Terengganu police in a raid on Jan 10 had busted a ring believed to be selling fake COVID-19 vaccination certificates, with more than 1,900 of such documents confiscated.

The Terengganu commercial crimes department arrested a 51-year-old doctor at a private clinic in Marang. Six others were detained soon after. – Jan 18, 2022
