Mojtaba Khamenei in “full health” following deadly strike on Iran leadership compound

IRAN’S SUPREME Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is reportedly in good condition after being injured during a joint US-Israeli strike earlier this year that targeted Iran’s leadership compound, according to a senior Iranian official cited by Anadolu Agency.

The statement is the first public update providing details about Khamenei’s condition following the wartime attack and the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Iran’s Fars News Agency quoted Mazaher Hosseini, director-general of protocol at the supreme leader’s office, as saying that Mojtaba Khamenei was hurt in airstrikes on Feb 28, before he was later appointed as Iran’s supreme leader.

Hosseini said he was at the compound when multiple strikes hit the area, including several nearby sites occupied by senior Iranian officials. Among those killed were Ali Khamenei, then Iran’s supreme leader and Mojtaba’s father.

According to Hosseini, Mojtaba was not inside his usual lecture hall when the strikes occurred. The building where he typically addressed audiences was later completely destroyed in the bombardment.

He added that Khamenei’s residence was also hit, resulting in the deaths of his wife and several others.

During the chaos, Mojtaba was reportedly knocked down by the force of the explosion while moving toward the residence, suffering injuries to his kneecap and lower back.

Hosseini said the back injury has shown improvement over time, while the kneecap is expected to recover soon.

“He is in full health,” Hosseini was quoted as saying by Fars.

The official also rejected rumours that Khamenei had suffered visible injuries to his forehead, clarifying that he only sustained a minor wound behind one ear, which has already been treated.

Hosseini further claimed that Iran’s enemies were attempting to obtain recordings or other material linked to Khamenei in order to target him, adding that the supreme leader would speak publicly when the timing is deemed suitable.

Mojtaba Khamenei officially assumed the position of supreme leader on March 9, days after his father was killed in the Feb 28 strikes carried out by US and Israeli forces. —May 10, 2026
