“More professional to discuss with coalition leaders before making media statements,” Nga tells Syed Saddiq

MUDA needs to discuss with the coalition’s top leadership instead of making media statements to retract support for the unity government, said a DAP leader.

DAP vice national chairman Nga Kor Ming was referring to what Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said on Tuesday (Sept 6) about how the party is planning to withdraw support for the unity government if the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) failed to explain its decision to withdraw the 47 corruption charges against Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

“Syed Saddiq is one of the MPs who supports the unity government,” Nga said after launching the National Circular Economy Council in Putrajaya today (Sept 7).

“It would be more appropriate to discuss with the top leaderships on the way forward. That is more professional.”

Nga, who is also the Local Government Development Minister, further urged former Attorney-General Tan Sri Idrus Harun to think twice about his decision to dismiss Zahid and accept the defence team’s letters of representation.

“All parties need to understand that under Article 145(3) of the Federal Constitution, The Attorney-General has the power to charge, dismiss or anything regarding a criminal case.

“So, the Attorney-General has to answer why they decided to dismiss and accept the representations,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nga reaffirmed that DAP will never withdraw their support for the unity government following the court’s decision involving Zahid recently as the party values friendship and is always loyal to the unity government’s struggles.

“DAP is a good friend and is always loyal to the coalition’s struggles,” the Teluk Intan MP said.

After 77 days of trial, the Kuala Lumpur High Court acquitted Zahid on Monday (Sept 4) of 47 charges of corruption, criminal breach of trust (CBT) and money laundering of Yayasan Akalbudi funds.

Judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah allowed the request of the AGC to have the trial proceedings stopped for all the charges against Zahid.

DNAA opens the possibility of Zahid being recharged again if prosecutors wish to revisit the matter. – Sept 7, 2023
