MOT did the right thing by not scrapping MyJPJ app, no thanks to below par MyDigital ID app functionality

MANY motorists would have heaved a sigh of relief that Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook has ordered scrapping of the existing MyJPJ application migration to that of the non-user-friendly MyDigital ID which was slated to come into effect on Oct 10.

Imagine yours truly who happened to renew his road tax yesterday (Oct 2) spent more than half-an-hour attempting to register the MyDigital ID with the help of a MyEG counter staff only to give up trying after being repeatedly prompted with the “ralat” (error) notification in the quest to snapshot and upload both sides of the IC onto the MyDigital ID app.

In fact, yours truly was already prepared to make a date with the MyDigital ID kiosk staff at the Lotus’s Kepong this weekend before Loke broke the good news that it is BAU (business as usual) for the MyJPJ app.

Interestingly, yours truly further found out that he was not the only motorist who encountered hardship to register the MIMOS Malaysia-initiated MyDigital ID for anger was already mounting on the social media as attested by this poster.

Imagine how the poorly-programmed MyDigital ID app is able to cope with the high number of licensed drivers who totalled 15.8 million as of end-December 2020 (latest available figure).

It is little wonder that many netizens are calling for the “half-baked” app which was “probably developed by school kids” to “be decommissioned”.

For more context, Loke in his announcement has stated that while the MOT supports the integration of MyDigital ID with the MyJPJ app, he has informed the latter that the exercise should be implemented on the back-end so as not to complicate the end-user.

This is given that the MyDigital ID aims to create a National Single Login where all government applications can be accessed without the need for different usernames and passwords.

As one netizen puts it, one “just has to pretend that MyDigital ID never existed” lest MIMOS embarks on a through overhauling of the app. – Oct 3, 2024
