A MOTORCYCLIST died after crashing into a steel barrier dislodged by a Singaporean Maserati making an illegal U-turn on Johor’s Second Link Expressway.
Authorities confirmed severe injuries, while investigations continue under reckless driving and assault-related charges after tensions flared among passing motorcyclists at the scene.
After the accident, multiple motorcyclists then surrounded the Maserati and used their helmets to smash its windows and windscreen.
In Malaysia, traffic can be difficult for those who are not familiar with driving on crowded roads. A debate has emerged between Malaysians and Singaporean users on X regarding the incident.
Malaysian social media users argue that the driver deserved the confrontation, given that a life was lost.
They point out the irony that Singaporeans demand strict adherence to law and order when the driver himself failed to follow the rules.
Another user states that the driver was allegedly waiting for 20 minutes in the jam before trying his luck.
The user added that for the entirety of the 20 minute wait, there were no accidents involving others who did the u-turn.
Others state that both are in the wrong in this instance. The driver was making an illegal u-turn, but the motorcyclist should’ve ridden his bike at an appropriate speed and made sure there were no obstructions in front of him.
The user adds that we should be more responsible to our own lives while we’re on the road. —May 11, 2025
