Move aside guys; ‘Minah Rempit’ wows netizens with her mad bike skills

FRESH off a sarcastic suggestion by a netizen that Mat Rempit be recognised as a national heritage instead of bak kut teh (herbal pork rib soup), a video highlighting the dangerous past time has spread to the ladies has gone viral.

For the uninitiated, Mat Rempit is pretty much a Malaysian slang for notorious youngsters who participate in hooliganism and illegal activities such as street racing, stunt biking, petty crime and public disturbance using a motorcycle.

The clip posted on the Getaran Instagram page shows a tudung-clad young lady executing some very dangerous stunts on her motorcycle on a public road. There was even a humorous caption asking how much dowry needed to be sent to secure this daredevil’s hand in marriage.

“At a glance this looks like a superman but actually a superwoman! He who gets this sister (in marriage) is a lucky man for she has great motoring skill,” quipped the Getaran Instagram post which has amassed 80,500 likes and almost 2,400 comments at the time of writing.

Here is a sample of what was said:

Of course, there were those who were far from impressed with some urging the authorities to take action as the “superwoman” is not only endangering her own life but also that of other road users.

Some predicted a less than happy ending for the purported Minah Rempit.

With one stating that a fall would immediately negate any potential dowry the she-devil seems to be attracting.

However, as with everything it seems it is a matter of time racial polemics is thrown into the discussion, sparking furious retorts and no shortage of racial invective (which FocusM will not share here).

Of course, there were those asked what the point was of putting oneself in such danger and what benefits were there to be gained from such antics.

However, not all were convinced on the gender of the rider in action, believing the poster has wrongly identified a hoodie for a tudung!

Whatever the gender, the post does highlight how ingrained in society these antics have become with more than few netizens were applauding the rider’s skills.

Perhaps it is not so preposterous a suggestion to make the Rempit – whether the Mat or Minah versions – a national heritage after all. – March 12, 2024
