MPS forcibly demolishes facade of lady’s terraced home

AS a proud homeowner, it is normal for us to want to make some renovation to our home as a statement towards our individuality.

But when our home comes alongside other properties owned by other people, there will be complications.

A video as shown in a post on X by #UpdateInfo about sums up how ugly things can get when renovations are done either illegally or without the consent of co-owners.

In the video, an excavator could be seen demolishing the terrace house owned by a lady.

According to her, Majlis Perbandaran Selayang at 9am came to demolish her home although her lawyer has received orders from the court.

She added that her appeals were rejected on the excuse that her neighbours have made complaints against her.

Further examination revealed that she made an extension to her balcony which did not receive the approval from her neighbours.

In defence, she said she has received the approval from her neighbours from both sides of her home.  However, they had retracted their approval at the start of the renovation work.

She added that many people in the area had made extensions to their balcony and wondered why she was unable to get approvals from Majlis Perbandaran Selayang (MPS) although many submissions and appeals have been made.

The majority of netizens, however, were quick to point out her folly in the comment section.

Netizen OH! MEDIA expressed scepticism over her innocence, stating that MPS would not be so hard working to find trouble with people by demolishing their homes unless there is a good reason behind it.

Another netizen observed that the lady did the renovation first before applying to MPS for the approval which is risky.

Then there are the complaints coming from the neighbours, likely due to other disturbances besides hampering the stability of the building structure.

Netizen Sir.Kid pointed out that the renovation on her side was made beautiful while the neighbour’s side showed exposed bricks without cement. This was likely the cause of their complaints.

Kang Mayo said the renovation is not according to the specifications of MPS, hence the action taken.

Out of sarcasm perhaps, the netizen further advised that if she wanted roman pillars but lived in a terraced home, then the best course of action was to move out.

Although it is clear the lady was at fault, perhaps her actions were taken under bad counsel from her lawyer or architect.

We are certain no sane minded individual would purposefully court disaster with the relevant authorities. Lack of legal knowledge may ultimately be the cause of this fiasco. – Sept 17, 2024
