MPs who now support PM will not be affected by Bersatu’s upcoming constitutional amendments

GUA Musang MP Mohd Azizi Abu Naim said his position and that of the five other Bersatu MP who are now supporting Prime Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will not be affected by the party’s upcoming amendment of its constitution.

“As far as I know, the constitutional amendment that Bersatu is set to make will not affect the MPs because the amendment is being made after we voiced support for the PM.

“God willing, nothing will stop me from serving my constituents in this parliamentary term,” Malaysiakini quoted Azizi as saying.

Two weeks ago, a parliamentarian who asked to remain anonymous speaking to a local portal pointed out it was the arrogance of the party’s leadership that had prompted the six MPs to support Anwar.

He said the party’s top leaders refused to entertain or listen to its parliamentarians, while the party refused to negotiate with Anwar for the opposition to get MP allocations.

The MPs gave their support to Anwar despite the existing anti-hopping law which is now in limbo because the law does not apply to the six MPs from Bersatu who defied their party leadership to support Anwar as PM.

Yesterday (Feb 16), Bersatu information chief Datuk Razali Idris said that the party will hold a special general assembly on March 2 to, amongst others, discuss the fate of the six MPs.

“God willing, it will be the end (of the six MPs who are backing Anwar), hopefully, Bersatu will rise again and continue to move forward,” Razali penned on his Facebook page.

Aside from Azizi, the five other Bersatu MPs backing Anwar are Tanjung Karang MP Datuk Zulkafperi Hanapi, Bukit Gantang MP Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal, Kuala Kangsar MP Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid, Jeli MP Zahari Kechik and Labuan MP Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman. – Feb 17, 2024
