WITH the Prime Minister’s 100-day report card extravaganza event only slapped with RM1,000 fine for violating COVID-19 standard operating procedure (SOP), netizens took to social media to lash out at the hypocrisy.
(Only RM1,000, you wretch? Even the food residue stuck between his teeth is more costly than that. Malaysia Darul Double Standard)
User One sarcastically added: “Only in Malaysia, one political party can do anything because Malaysians love them sooo much.”
Netizen Arjuna noted:
(Many people attended it but only slapped with a fine of RM1,000. The place was congested and filled with music just like a night club. However, night clubs get compounded by tens of thousands. Do we need to become UMNO members to get the freedom to do whatever we want in the country?)
During the event, thousands thronged the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre with many media personnel and attendees found physical distancing and face mask rules being openly flouted.
On the first day of the event, the media failed to get comments from Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin on the matter, who was also present at the venue.
Emboldening law breakers
Malaysiakini reported that on Thursday, the Kuala Lumpur police raided an entertainment centre and issued compounds amounting to RM220,000 to 44 patrons – an average of RM5,000 per person.
The premise owner was also slapped with an RM25,000 compound.
On that note, user iHammy said that such hypocrisy from the authorities would only embolden others to break laws of the land.
