M’sia will come home the Swiss Open mixed doubles trophy

MALAYSIA will bring home the Swiss Open mixed doubles title with both a champion and runner-up in an all-Malaysian final that will be played later today.

Mixed doubles pairs Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei and Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie successfully secured their spots in the final after defeating their respective opponents in the semi-finals.

In the matches held at St Jakobshalle in Basel, Soon Huat-Shevon advanced to the final for the third consecutive time after defeating the Dutch pair, Robin Tabeling-Selena Piek, 21-18, 21-16.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei had no trouble defeating the Taiwanese pair, Ye Hong Wei-Lee Chia Hsin, 21-16, 21-12, thus advancing to the final for the first time in this Super 300 tournament.

Tonight’s encounter presents an opportunity for Soon Huat-Shevon to redeem themselves after only emerging as runners-up after losing in the final.

For Tang Jie-Ee Wei, this is their first title chase of the season, with their best achievement being runners-up in the Thailand Masters last month. – March 24, 2024
