“Muhyiddin compelled to accept EPF withdrawals or his gov’t would fall”

THE Tan Sri Muhyiddin government was forced to accept the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) withdrawals at the height of the lockdowns in Malaysia or face the collapse of his regime if he resisted, claimed a page administrator on former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s Facebook page today.

According to the administrator, Muhyiddin had given “excuse after excuse” to explain why EPF withdrawals from Account 1 – which Najib had suggested several times – should not be allowed.

“Towards the end of 2020 Najib was then appointed Barisan Nasional (BN) backbenchers’ club chairman which will allow him to debate the Budget 2021 and put him in the thick of key matters,” read the Facebook post.

The administrator alleged that Najib had then set two conditions should PN wanted Barisan Nasional (BN) to support the 2021 Budget – for the people to be able to withdraw from their EPF Account 1 with no conditions, as well as the automatic extension of the loan moratorium.

“If the budget did not get BN’s support and cannot be approved then Muhyiddin’s government will fall immediately at that time,” it said.

“For that reason, Muhyiddin and the PN government had to approve Najib’s two conditions. They had to allow and approve i-Citra as well as the loan moratorium extension. Not voluntarily.”

However, it was noted that Najib’s conditions had received strong criticism from PN and PAS who compared it to the story of the Princess of Gunung Ledang.

“They denounced and accused Najib of threatening Muhyiddin’s government.”

“Govt after BN merely claiming credit for themselves”

In the comment section of the post, many Najib supporters gave the thumbs up to the jailbird, saying his Facebook page is evidence that PN and PAS cannot claim they are the ones who initiated the idea of EPF withdrawals to help the people during the pandemic.

“There is no denying the facts. It is true that [Datuk Seri Najib Razak] is the most concerned when it comes to the people’s hardship and this was despite not having a ministerial position,” wrote user Liz Laurencia.

“Why claim that it was someone else’s idea when it had been stated clearly that this page is witness and evidence of the people’s complaint about the EPF withdrawals. Just accept the fact that Najib is a hero who have helped so many people in need.”

User Hana Noorul’aalhana concurred, adding that “The government after BN only followed what [Najib] did and claimed credit after that. It’s like we cannot see!”

User Meor Rahman, meanwhile, said, “Hopefully this clarification will help people understand what’s really happening.” – Dec 12, 2022
