Muhyiddin faces backlash on social media over corruption rebuttal

FORMER prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is facing criticism on social media for his defense of the corruption charges brought against him last week.

Netizens on Facebook and Twitter are unsatisfied with his comments on the case and his attacks against the government of PM Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Muhyiddin has accused the Malaysia Madani government of political persecution, and this has also caused a backlash against him.

Meanwhile, on Twitter, user @BadBoy2662 said:

The user in the thread is saying, “Who appointed the IGP? Him (Muhyiddin). Who appointed the SPRM Chief? Him. Who appointed the AG? Him. Who appointed the Chief Judge? Him. Who dares to investigate? Him. Who dares to sue? Him. Who is not afraid to debate? Him. But who is wrong in all this? PMX (Anwar Ibrahim). I recommend Midin (Muhyiddin) to take Syafiq as a loyar (lawyer in Malay slang).

Nevertheless, on his Facebook page, Muhyiddin posted the press conference he delivered after hearing the charges against him at the courts.

Commenting on the post, user Almas Dqiara said:

The user cherished the assistance provided by the then government headed by Muhyiddin during the COVID-19 lockdowns.

“Thank you for the help TSMY when COVID-19 hit.. even if it was only temporary.. I really appreciate it.. May Allah swt protects you against calamities in this world.. thank you again.”

However, some were of a different view about Muhyiddin.

Facebook user Rosman Ibrahim playing on sarcasm said:

“I suggest Tan Sri take an oath just like Datuk Seri Najib Razak (DSNR) did before… Let the people who persecute Tan Sri get the punishment from God.. that too if you dare…”

Meanwhile, another Twitter user did the math to show, according to him, how the anti-graft busters found the alleged commission paid into the Bersatu accounts.

User @PasolaOfficial wrote:

In the post he said, “Do you know how does TSMY obtained the bribe (alleged) valued at RM232.5 mil?

“Remember the first arrest of Adam Radlan (cousin of TSMY’s son-in-law), the MACC reported that the contractor admitted to paying 3-5% commission for the Jana Wibawa project: RM5.7 bil 4% of RM5.7 bil = You do the math.” — March 11, 2023
