Muhyiddin unveils Economic Action Council lineup

TOP government officials and prominent corporate captains make up Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s Economic Action Council.

According to a March 16 statement by the Prime Minister’s Office, public officials comprise Muhyiddin as chairman, Minister of Finance Tengku Datuk Zafrul Abdul Aziz, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed and Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry Lim Ban Hong.

Also in the council are Bank Negara Malaysia governor Datuk Nor Shamsiah Mohd Yunus and EAC executive director Tan Sri Dr Noor Azlan Ghazali.

As for corporate figures, council members include Westports Malaysia Bhd chairman Tan Sri G. Gnanalingam, Sunway Bhd chairman Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah, Axiata Group Bhd group CEO Tan Sri Jamaluddin Ibrahim, Mercy Malaysia director Tan Sri Dr Jemilah Mahmood and The Edge Media Group chairman Datuk Tong Kooi Ong.

The EAC had been set up to ensure economic sustainability, according to Muhyiddin. Steps include short- and medium-term plans to ensure economic growth as well as to ensure that the EAC’s decisions are executed efficiently.

Today, EAC agreed to take several actions to reinforce the previously announced Economic Stimulus Package 2020. Measures include a claimable RM600 per month for six months for workers told to take unpaid leave and electricity charge discounts. – March 16, 2020
