Muhyiddin’s ex-aide challenges DAP to appoint non-Chinese sec-gen in non-Malay PM tit-for-tat

THE polemic stemming from retired DAP supremo Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang reiterating that the Federal Constitution does not bar non-Malays from becoming Prime Minister (PM) is has taken a new twist with Opposition-slant political scientist Datuk Dr Marzuki Mohamad teasingly asked if DAP would ever admit a Malay or an Indian as its secretary-general.

Stating that Kit Siang’s dream to see non-Malays become a Malaysian PM is not wrong, the former principal private secretary to eighth premier Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin nevertheless reckoned that the veteran lawmaker must first show his commitment by allowing a non-Chinese to assume the most coveted position in DAP.

“Anyone can have a dream. After all, dreams are free. No need to pay anything. Can dreams come true? The answer is yes if there is commitment,” penned the Bersatu member in a Facebook post.

“In the DAP where the majority of its members are Chinese, can a Malay or an Indian become its secretary-general? If this can be done in his own party, then at least his dream can be realised in the form of commitment.”

Added Marzuki: “Only then does what he says carry weight. If that can’t be done, it’s better not to say anything.”

Interestingly, Marzuki’s latest reaction to Kit Siang’s Malaysian Dream pursuit could potentially spark a debate when netizen Aiman Amani drew a ‘sharp’ analogy by wondering “if a Malay – supposedly from PKR – can be made Penang’s Chief Minister (CM)”.

“Yes, experiment that with Penang first,” quipped Marzuki to which another netizen Siti Zuraidah Mahmud recalled the time when former DAP stalwart Prof Ramasamy Palanisamy was rumoured to be eyeing the Penang CM post, “Chinese Penangites threatened to boycott DAP”.

Elsewhere, Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal has called on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to amend the Federal Constitution before Kit Siang’s Malaysian Dream agenda transforms into a “Malaysian Nightmare (Igauan Malaysia)”.

“Perhaps through this way, the support of the Malays for the unity government led by him can to a certain extent be restored instead of having to show off the capal (men’s slippers), songkok, kissing the keris or trying so hard to uplift the Malay language,” opined the Machang MP.

“So, my suggestion to the PM is that this is the best time – with two-third majority on your side as claimed – to amend the Federal Constitution so that only a Muslim Malay can become the PM of Malaysia.” – Dec 15, 2023
