Muhyiddin’s ex-political aide Marzuki: DAP wants UMNO dead

IT IS very obvious that DAP does not give a damn about UMNO losing Malay support even if there is no point of UMNO being a Malay party but not getting Malay support.

In fact, “UMNO will die and DAP could not care less if UMNO dies so long as the present UMNO is able to fulfil DAP’s need to secure a two-third majority for the PH (Pakatan Harapan) government”, according to Datuk Dr Marzuki Mohamad who was the then principal private secretary to former prime minister (PM) Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (main pic, right).

“With that, DAP can realise their dream of amending the Federal Constitution to increase the seats dominated by DAP in GE16 (16th General Election),” the political scientist by training penned on his Facebook page.

“When this happens, DAP will no longer need UMNO. DAP will let UMNO die. In fact, it would be better for DAP if UMNO is dead because that is what DAP wanted from the beginning.”

Marzuki was commenting on the recent statement by UMNO supreme council member Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed that DAP must drop its Malaysian Malaysia and secular state agenda in order for UMNO to win back Malay support.

For Nur Jazlan, this is the big problem facing UMNO currently as the Malays who include a big proportion of the party’s grassroots members are rejecting UMNO because they dislike DAP.

Tracing the chain of events, Marzuki observed that on the same day (Aug 30), DAP MP for Jelutong RSN Rayer had claimed that Nur Jazlan misunderstood and gave the impression that there is no problem with either the Malaysian Malaysia struggle or DAP’s secular state policy.

Three days later on Sept 2, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook said DAP will not drop its Malaysian Malaysia and secular state agenda which is the core of his party’s struggle.

“This is rather obvious as both concepts have allowed DAP to obtain 98% of the support of Chinese support for DAP. After all, DAP is a Chinese party,” contented Marzuki, adding that on the same day, UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahidi Hamidi even stated that Nur Jazlan was only expressing his personal view and not the party’s position.

Such development has led Marzuki to conclude that UMNO had in a span of three days “lost to DAP on a policy matter that it has stood firmly to uphold since the party was established in 1946”.

“Remember, UMNO was formed because of the struggle of the Malays against the British colonial policy which wanted every citizen to have an equal share in terms of their rights. Malaysian Malaysia is a continuation of such colonial policy,” deduced Marzuki.

“As for Zahid who is also the BN (Barisan Nasional) chairman and Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) bowing to Loke who is also the Transport Minister further strengthens the perception that UMNO is unable to defend Malay rights in the government. Probably it’s just a flowerpot. The DPM has lost to the Transport Minister.” – Sept 4, 2023
