Muhyiddin’s U-turn adds to the opposition’s hilarious moments online

FORMER premier Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin made a u-turn and will fight for his post as president after he decided to quit as leader of the Bersatu on Friday (Nov 24).

This u-turn has now earned him some nicknames on social media where users are saying he is frightened of his wife.

Announcing his u-turn during a party meeting, Muhyiddin said he decided after getting the blessing of his wife Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman to continue leading the party.

In certain cultures, leaders who heed the advice of their non-political spouses are accused of succumbing to influence from the ‘kitchen’.

Detractors argue this implies that the running of the country is guided more by those holding the casserole than by decisions made in the Prime Minister’s office.

Nevertheless, netizen @MaulenaGroot advised Muhyiddin to consult with the ‘bini’ before making any announcements.

[Next time, discuss with your wife first before making the announcement yesterday (Nov 25). @RadziJidin has informed his wife that he wants to become president. Seriously.]

In the confusion created by Muhyiddin, some are saying the Pagoh MP was testing the market to see whether he would be asked not to quit by the party.

(I told you, it’s just a market test. Haha, Malays tend to forget easily. The one trying to persuade is actually not sincere; they just want to pretend to care, afraid that the person testing loyalty might question them. That’s the one doing the persuading. Hahaha. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣)

For Michael Loh@MichaelLwk, the confession from Muhyiddin that he had to listen to his wife to make the U-turn is reminiscent of another incident involving a former PM and his wife.

[Wife didn’t approve, and then the ‘Can I advise you something’ moment appeared (reminiscent of an audio transcript purportedly between former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his wife). What we Malaysians understand is as per the picture. Let’s unite until we sink.] – Nov 26, 2023
